Exploring Arashiyama + Fushimi Inari Shrine Kyoto, Japan

Arashiyama (嵐山) District, Kyoto, Japan

Arashiyama (嵐山) is a famous tourist area in Western Kyoto, Japan. The best time to visit is during Sakura season and fall season.  You can explore the area by foot or hire a bicycle.

Things to DO:

➤ Monkey Park – I started my day hiking a mountain to see the monkeys.  The Monkey Park is located south of the Togetsukyo Bridge. The route was not difficult and it was an easy climb. At the summit you can view the city of Kyoto at the top. The monkeys roam freely around the park.

➤ Tenryuji Temple – Cross Togetsukyo Bridge and walk until you reach Tenryuji. The temple is one of the most important temples in Kyoto,  It is also a UNESCO world heritage site.

➤ Bamboo Groves – After exploring Tenryuji Temple, I ate some delicious soba and dango near one of the entrances going to the bamboo groves. The bamboo grove is actually located behind Tenryuji Temple. The walking paths can get crowded with tourist.

➤ Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street – After exiting the Bamboo grove,  I explored the area and tried to find my way to Saga-Toriimoto. The streets are well-preserved and the architecture is from the Meiji Period. Cafés, restaurants and shops line the streets. Along the way you can drop by at the Otagi Nenbutsuji. The Temple is famous for its small stone statues of called rakan.

The fox is believed to be the messenger of Inari the Shinto god of rice.  I enjoyed exploring the mountain trails and beautiful structures.
