Day 2-3: Shopping at Malioboro Street
Jalan Malioboro or Malioboro Street is a major shopping area in Jogjakarta. It is also a major backpacker/tourist area. I f you decide to stay here there are a lot of hotels and inns around . Both sides of the street are lined with small shops and restaurants.
Since my ojek driver and I agreed that he will take me back to my hotel he was willing to wait for me while I explore Malioboro, I wanted to take my time so I just told him not to wait and paid him the agreed amount. He was really nice.
A variety of products are being sold here perfect place for souvenir shopping . I noticed that they give higher prices to tourist so be ready to haggle, the good thing about shopping here is that the products are affordable and prices are negotiable. Aside from small shops there is also a mall, if you need to use your ATM machines are available inside the mall.
The best way to get around Malioboro is by foot, so always use comfortable footwear and clothes and also take care with your belongings. What to buy? the best thing to buy are BATIKS ( batik tablecloths, sarongs, pillow cases, clothes ), it is a cloth that uses traditional dying using wax.batik was also declared as an Indonesian heritage by the UNESCO.
