Taiwan is an island nation in East Asia. Its neighbors includes China, Japan and the Philippines. Taiwan is mix of the old and the new with influences from different Asian cultures Like Japan and China. Taiwan is a fascinating country that offers diverse activities and sceneries. Purchasing the ticket to Taiwan was an impulsive purchase but I’am happy I did it.

My DIY solo travel in Taiwan has many first; it was my first time flying with Air Asia (international) , first time traveling abroad with just a carry on baggage (nightmare) and lastly first time travelling in a place that was not part of my bucket list.

Philippine nationals are eligible to travel to Taiwan visa-free for 14 days. The visa -free initiative will have a 9-month trial period until July 31, 2018. Hopefully it will become permanent in the near future.

Taiwan Currency

There are not a lot on money changers in the city but you can exchange money  either at the airport ( 3% service charge) or local the banks (banking hours). I usually use my ATM when travelling because it is more convenient. Make sure to call your bank to check if international withdrawal is allowed and if there are any charges.

Airport to Taipei City

Taoyuan Airport  is  1 hour to 45 minutes  away from Taipei main station. The most economical way to trave from airport to the main city is by bus or by train.

By Bus:

From the airport and follow the signs that will lead you to the bus terminals. Take Bus 1819 which can take you up to Taipei Main Station, fare is about NT$125-145.

The MRT is open from 6am to 11pm only. the travel time  is 1 hour and 10 minutes for the commuter train and 38 minutes for the express train. Fare is NT$160.
